STRANGE SUBSTANCE IN BLOOD: Forensic investigators examining the deaths of Ernst and Dina Marais have reportedly uncovered a mysterious chemical substance in the couple’s bloodstreams — a discovery that may dramatically deepen the mystery surrounding the tragedy inside Kruger National Park.

According to sources close to the investigation, toxicology specialists identified traces of an unusual sedative-like compound during advanced laboratory testing performed earlier this week. Investigators believe the substance may have entered the victims’ systems less than an hour before their deaths.

Officials have not publicly named the compound, but police sources claim the chemical is rarely encountered in ordinary criminal investigations and is reportedly known to circulate mainly through remote border regions in southern Africa, where illegal wildlife trafficking and black-market medical products have previously been investigated.

One forensic source described the discovery as “highly unusual and deeply concerning.”

Authorities reportedly became suspicious after early toxicology results revealed abnormal reactions inconsistent with common prescription medication or naturally occurring substances. Additional testing later confirmed the presence of a synthetic compound believed to cause severe dizziness, confusion, muscle weakness, and temporary disorientation.

Investigators are now examining whether the substance may have impaired Ernst and Dina Marais during their final hours inside the park, potentially leaving the elderly couple vulnerable and unable to react normally in a dangerous environment.

Police have not confirmed how the substance may have entered their systems, though detectives are reportedly considering several possibilities, including accidental exposure, contaminated food or drink, or intentional administration by another individual.

Medical experts involved in the case reportedly noted small marks on one of the victims consistent with a recent injection site, though officials emphasized that forensic analysis is still ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached.

The revelation has intensified public speculation surrounding the mysterious deaths of the Marais couple, whose bodies were discovered near a crocodile-inhabited river after an extensive search operation involving park rangers, divers, helicopters, and police units.

Friends of the couple insist the new toxicology findings do not match the behavior Ernst and Dina would normally display while traveling through wildlife areas.

“They were cautious people,” one family acquaintance reportedly said. “If they were confused or disoriented, something must have seriously affected them.”

Authorities continue warning the public against spreading false rumors online while investigators work to verify the origin of the substance and determine whether it played a direct role in the tragedy.

Meanwhile, forensic teams are now reviewing surveillance footage, recent purchases, restaurant stops, and phone records connected to the couple’s final movements before they disappeared.

Police say international forensic experts may also be consulted as investigators attempt to trace the rare compound’s origin and understand how it became linked to one of the most mysterious cases currently under investigation in South Africa.
