HEARTBREAKING UPDATE: Close Friend Reveals Grace’s Final Three-Word Plea Before She Vanished
A devastating new detail has emerged in the search for Grace Keeling, 15, the teenager who went missing after being swept out to sea by a freak wave at Withernsea, East Yorkshire, leaving her family and community clinging to hope.
A close friend of Grace has now shared what she says was the final message Grace sent moments before the tragedy, a brief but chilling three-word plea for help that investigators are treating as a critical piece of context in the case.
According to the friend, Grace sent the message as conditions along the seafront suddenly worsened, just before the powerful wave struck.
The message read:
“I can’t swim.”
The friend told police the text was sent in a panic and came without any further explanation. Attempts to reply were unsuccessful, and minutes later, emergency services were flooded with reports of people being dragged into the sea by an unexpected surge.
As previously reported, Grace and her mother, Sarah Keeling, 45, were near the shoreline when the freak wave hit. Sarah immediately entered the water in a desperate attempt to save her daughter. A 67-year-old passerby also jumped in to help. Tragically, both adults later lost their lives.
Grace, however, has not been found.
Authorities have since confirmed the recovery of several of Grace’s personal belongings, including her backpack, but say the latest revelation underscores how quickly the situation escalated.
A police spokesperson said:
“This message is deeply distressing and highlights the sudden danger posed by the sea that day. Our thoughts are with Grace’s family and friends as we continue to support them.”
Friends described Grace as “kind, bubbly, and full of plans,” saying it is unbearable to think that her final words were a plea for help that came too late.
Floral tributes and handwritten notes continue to grow along the promenade, many now referencing the three words that have come to symbolize the heartbreak of the case.
As of now, Grace Keeling remains missing, and while active search operations have scaled back, authorities stress that the investigation remains open. For her loved ones, those three words echo painfully — a reminder of how suddenly everything changed.
